In November 2014, the Mars Hill University Jazz Ensemble was the only collegiate-level jazz band to be selected to perform at the 2014 North Carolina Music Educators Association Conference. Dr. John Entzi led the group in a standing-room-only concert. Bravo!

Mars Hill University Music Alumni Facts

  • Since 2007, Mars Hill University Department of Music has had a 100% job placement rate for our Bachelors of Music Education graduates who wished to teach in the public schools.

  • Four Past Presidents of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association are Mars Hill University alumni: Michael Wilson, Fran Shelton, Anne Reese, and Michael Robinson.

  • All of our graduates teaching band in public high schools made a Superior rating at the 2014 MPA Band Festival at Brevard College.

  • In his first year as band director at Asheville Middle School, Kevin Young (Bachelor of Music Education, MHU, 2013) placed four students (more than any other school in the district) in the District Jazz Band.  One of these four, a trumpet player, also made First Chair in All-State Jazz Band and is in the NC Honor Band.
